1. Summarize the influence your family had on your values, attitudes and beliefs about alcohol and drugs while you were growing up. (10 pts)
2. Discuss some experiences related to others’ alcohol/drug use that have impacted you. This could be a family member, friend, significant other, or public figure. Include in this discussion anyone you may know who is in recovery and how that has impacted you. (10 pts)
3. What do you believe about individuals who use or abuse alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs? What model or theory about chemical dependency/addictions do you currently hold? Has anything in your point of view/values/attitudes from the beginning of the semester changed? Craft a philosophical statement of your current understanding of addiction and the addictive process. Include what you believe causes addictive behaviors and how you can account for diverse experiences for different people. (25 pts)
4. Discuss the TAP21 Core Competencies and/or UC General Education Academic Competencies and your overall level of competence. Then select at least two areas of personal/professional strength and two areas in which you need improvement. Explain your thinking about these areas. (25 pts)
5. Professional Career Statement: (30 pts)
Discuss in depth three things from this class that impacted you the most and how that has shaped your understanding and commitment to doing something about the drug crisis facing our country. Include in your discussion the following: What can you see yourself doing to help? What do you see as policies or programs you would support?
