Directions:

Read over the Inquiry Activity on page 259 called Investigating NAFTA. The book Fundamentals of International Business was published in 2018 and since then the NAFTA/USMCA has been finalized and signed in January of 2020.

Your assignment is to research through a variety of web sites the current status of the agreement. There were changes that impacted the three countries involved: Canada, Mexico and the United States and to provide a research paper based on the outcome of these negotiations.

You are to research the six questions outlined on page 259 and incorporate them into your document.

You are to divide your paper into the following sections:

General Introduction: explain the history of this agreement, current status and briefly outline the concerns of the three members. (Mexico, United States and Canada) Include question #1 (approx. 1-1.5 pages)

Terms and Conditions of the Agreement: Explain what were the terms being negotiated with the three countries. Make sure to identify the issues and what the outcomes (decisions) were. Include the questions in your textbook # 2, 3, 4 in this section. (2-3 pages)

Summary: This is where you summarize your findings and voice your opinion. Include the findings of questions 5 and 6. (1-2 pages)

It is essential that you create a research document of approximately (5-7) pages. Ensure that your opinion is reflected strongly in the summary section of the document. Make sure that you follow the rules of the MLA format (document is in your Moodle under Nafta assignment) for all your quotations and materials you source. Include sentences that acknowledge both sides of the argument reasons and examples to support your opinion. In your writing, make sure to include transition words to introduce each paragraph and connectives to create complex sentences. Final copy is typed, paragraphs are indented, and double-spaced.
