As mentioned, you will have an opportunity to reflect on what we’ve covered thus far in the semester. Specifically, I’d like to hear your thoughts on what you see as some of the more challenging, disappointing, or limiting aspects from criminal law. We have spent time during our section meetings discussing this in breakout rooms, and now I’d like you to share your ideas in written format. Students have raised criminal law’s inability to curtail police violence, the balance between state interests and individual liberties, the punishment of status offenses, the fact that there are so many jurisdictions with their own interpretations and applications of criminal law, prosecutorial and judicial bias, the fact that punishment is too focused on incapacitation, vagueness in criminal statutes, etc. You are not limited to these and are free to discuss any other aspect that interests you. Make sure you clearly identify what the issue is, and give your reasoning for why you think so. You are more than welcome to offer your thoughts on what a better alternative could be. You have lots of freedom in this assignment, but make sure you limit your answer to two pages, as this is not meant to be a long assignment. Please let me know if you have any questions.
