8-1 Discussion: CareersFiguring out who we are, what we want out of life, the career we hope to have, and the impact we wish to make on society is often not clearly thought out in terms we can easily express. However, being able to give an elevator pitch about yourself in job interviews or when networking is such an important skill. In this career-focused discussion, you will practice writing your own bio and share one picture (or any media, e.g., meme, gif, image) that represents you and what you stand for.
For your initial post, first you will create a one- to two-paragraph elevator pitch biography of yourself. Use the questions provided below and share your bio with your peers and learning community. Use the Module Eight Careers Discussion Template Word Document to help you answer all of the questions thoroughly. It is recommended that you copy and paste the questions and answers into your initial post.
- Why are you in school?
- What are your strengths?
- How do you learn best?
- What are your skills?
- What skills do you want to improve upon or learn?
- What are your interests and hobbies?
- What problems would you like to address in the world?
- Where do you envision yourself in five years?
- Which of the programmatic course themes is most relevant to your career or goals for personal growth?
- Self-care
- Social justice
- Emotional intelligence
- Career connections
- Ethics
Next, share one picture (or any media, e.g., meme, gif, image) that represents you and what you stand for. Include a brief description explaining why you chose that picture.
Remember to respond to two peers while being respectful of and sensitive to their viewpoints. Consider advancing the discussion in the following ways:
- Engage in conversation with your peers around their bios. Consider asking a question or sharing similarities about yourself.
- Discuss with peers how EI will play a part in your actualization of goals and self.
