Hey class,

The three levels of prevention are primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary prevention is concerned with preventing the development of disease by reducing exposure to risk factors environmental and behavioural (Anderson et al., 2020, Chapter 2 Assessing Health and its Determinants) Primary prevention would be when mask mandates were put in to place at the beginning to the COVID 19 Pandemic to limit the risk of exposure. Secondary prevention in contrast, focuses on early diagnosis for example, by screening to improve the prospects of treatment. (Anderson et al., 2020, Chapter 2 Assessing Health and its Determinants) This could go back to the COVID 19 Pandemic because in the hospital we ask every patient and family a series of questions to see if they have an increased risk for exposure. Tertiary prevention includes measures to reduce the consequences of illness and is often seen as integral to a rehabilitation programme. (Anderson et al., 2020, Chapter 2 Assessing Health and its Determinants) This would be once the patient is sick you would want to prevent them from getting sicker.

Thanks,

The three levels of prevention is primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary prevention is improving the health of the population. AN example of primary prevention would be a immunization clinics. Vaccinating people in different countries in order to prevent disease. Secondary prevention is improving health through health screenings. An example of secondary prevention would be a mammograms to find breast cancer or a colonoscopy to find colon cancer. Self exams can also be a part of health screenings. Tertiary preventions is improving ones recovery. An example of tertiary prevention is a form of rehab . Another example is educating oneself about there own health and educating about there recovery. Tertiary prevention can also be coming to doctor visits and keeping up with the interventions that the doctor and nurse assigns to that person. All three of the levels are very essential to prevent disease. All three levels are important in its own way.

The three-level of prevention, in public health, aims to prevent a disease before it starts. These are categorized as primary, secondary, and tertiary, prevention.

  • Primary – prevent the onset of illness, before it begins.
  • Secondary – preventive measures that lead to early diagnosis.
  • Tertiary – aims the rehabilitation after a certain illness.

Explanation:

An issue wherein a health threat’ can be reduced by an intervention such as by vaccination – the rising numbers of people affected by the covid 19 viruses for instance can be prevented through the help of a vaccine.

Examples of prevention by levels:

  • Primary – immunization and healthy lifestyle
  • Secondary – breast self-examination and health screening for early detection of a certain illness
  • Tertiary – rehabilitation of those already affected by the disease.

Note that primary prevention aims to prevent the disease while secondary and tertiary aim to prevent the disease from getting worse.

Health education can be applied to each level. In the primary, you can educate the patient on how to prevent certain diseases. In secondary, you can educate the patient to seek medical consult, if a certain symptom/s occurs, and I=n tertiary, you can educate the patient to take the medication properly

Hello professor and class,

The three levels of prevention used in public health are Primary prevention, improving the overall health, base on population. It’s like trying to prevent self from getting sick of a disease. Secondary Prevention, improving in general and trying to detect a disease in the early stage and preventing it from getting worse even avoiding death. Tertiary Prevention treatment and recovery by improving quality of life and reducing symptoms of the past.

An issue where an intervention has or would be needed is an alcoholic or a drug user, who has no control of his or her habit or behavior.  Teaching and communicating can be strategies for intervention. Building a relationship with the individual letting him or her know that you are there. Adapting or changing the environment to a positive space and free from all influences of a bad habit. Developing social skills is very important during an intervention process.  How else can you help in another way of intervention such as building relationships?
