Metacognitive Exercise

Now that we’ve been practicing critical reading for a few weeks, take some time to assess how your skills have improved.  Select one of your Critical Reading exercises to analyze for this reflection.

1. Define “critical reading” in your own words.  What’s involved in critical reading, and why is this such an important skill in academic contexts?

2. Choose a passage from your CR exercise and paste it here.

3. Explain how this passage demonstrates your understanding of critical reading, according to the definition you just gave. OR explain how the passage struggles with critical reading, according to the definition you just gave, and how you might revise it now that you understand it better.

4. How are you using your critical reading skills in your other classes this quarter?

Aim for 500-750 words.
