In DRAWING as a visual arts discipline- there are a variety of medias to explore.

 For example, Graphite (your pencils are a form of graphite) and Charcoal (quite literally charred wood with a binder or binding agent).

 Additionally, there are Dry Medias (graphite, charcoal, pastel, etc.) and there are varieties of Liquid Media (Inks, sumi ink, water soluble medias, coffee, tea, etc.).
