Week 8 – Assignment: Prepare Professional Development Training

Instructions

For this assignment you will be building off of the proposal you developed in Week 6 and should reflect your instructors feedback.

Assume you have been nominated as a potential teacher of the year in your state. Your superintendent and instructional leader really want the recognition that comes with this prestigious award. When districts produce teachers of the year, they typically receive an influx in quality applicants, which is always beneficial. This is your time to shine and show the committee that you are a worthy candidate for this wonderful award.

To be eligible, you must present a poster at a conference or district professional-development event. Your instructional leader and district superintendent have asked that you present at a professional development meeting prior to the start of the next school year. You will present an entire morning or afternoon session. The audience includes all of the preschool, kindergarten, and first grade teachers in the district.

Begin by selecting one of these topics included in this course: a) the history of early childhood development and instruction; b) theories utilized in early childhood instruction; c) the importance of preschool; d) nature versus nurture; e) instilling social skills and tolerance in young children; or f) scaffolding in the early childhood classroom.

Then, delve into the research to locate current and relevant information that will back your assertions. Discuss the topic you selected, within the poster, in order to educate your audience. Include important aspects as related to professional development to help these teachers successfully begin the next school year. As a potential recipient of the teacher-of-the-year honor, recommend best practices related to the subject and how to involve parents of each student. Provide examples for your audience.

Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 1 poster, 2-4 notes pages (notes for yourself as talking points), title and reference pages
