Please note that if you have critiqued any of these papers in one of my prior classes, you are not to pick that same paper again.
The paper should be broken down as follows: (Note that you do not need an introduction for this paper.)
1-Title Page: Your paper should have a title page in APA format that includes a title of your choosing, your name, student number, course code and date (see right-hand image).
2-Summary: Your paper will begin with a summary of the paper (150 words max). Do not copy the abstract but you can read other abstracts from other papers to get a good sense of how to write a proper summary.
3-Critique: The purpose of this part of the paper, which should be 900 words total, is to assess the study overall. In this section you will critique different aspects of the paper of your choosing. You should keep in mind that a balanced critique will entail a discussion of both the merits and the limitations of a paper. You may comment on any aspect of the paper. Be specific in your comments. A comment such as, the methodology was not good is not sufficient. Tell us why and what could have been done differently. Think about how the findings may be importance in the context of the broader literature. Are the findings consistent with the literature? Have the authors provided evidence for a new theory or an existing one? When thinking about the authors conclusions, ask yourself if their data support those conclusions. In order to show off your analytical skills, you should focus on issues related to the article in particular, rather than more general issues in the field (e.g., do not discuss writing style or sample size; these may be important topics but we want a critique that is unique to the paper in question). It is up to you how many main critique points you want to have but I would recommend 3.
4-Conclusion: Finally, you will write one short paragraph (100 words) concluding your paper.
IMPORTANT: You must reference additional articles to supplement your critique (approximately a minimum of 5-6 journal article references, excluding the critiqued article). These must be included in a reference list.
Formatting: This paper must follow APA formatting guidelines (except you do not need an abstract):
Grading: The paper will be graded out of 40 according to the following scheme: o 2 Marks for APA Formatting (these are easy giveaway marks) o 6 marks for Summary (Content and Expression) o 30 marks for Critique (Content and Expression) o 2 marks for Conclusion paragraph (Content and Expression)
