Part of this module focuses upon drugs that are prescribed for mental disorders. Social scientists have observed that many human experiences previously regarded as a normal part of the human condition (sadness, addiction, anger, etc.), are now increasingly understood as medical problems, and therefore necessitating diagnosis and treatment with drugs. This process is called medicalization.
