Medicalization and Prescription drugs

Part of this module focuses upon drugs that are prescribed for mental disorders. Social scientists have observed that many human experiences previously regarded as a normal part of the human condition (sadness, addiction, anger, etc.), are now increasingly understood as medical problems, and therefore necessitating diagnosis and treatment with drugs. This process is called medicalization. Giving direct reference to the content of Chapter 8 out of your textbook, evaluate the pro-and con-arguments of the increasing use of medications for mental disorders. For example, in what ways can medicalization be seen as a benefit? In what ways can medicalization be viewed as a problem?
