My name is Mike Hummel and I am pursuing my PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in International Business. I completed my BAS and Master of Arts in Management and went on to complete my Master of Business Administration. I am working toward the PhD to be able to teach Masters and Doctorate level courses. In addition I recently took a job with Zodiac Aerospace a conglomerate of aerospace companies with offices all over the world (104 offices in 40 countries). Professionally I have been all over the map both around the globe and around many different businesses. I have worked in 16 different countries on 4 different continents. I worked on aircraft from the age of 15 primarily focused on avionics (aviation electronics). At age 19 I went into the Air Force and served 9 years there still in the avionics field but also adding ground radar to the mix. I went back to the civilian airports and worked for four years as an Avionics Lead and as an Avionics Manager. Following an accident that prevents me from doing aircraft maintenance I have moved into technical writing and program management. While this is the highest degree I can achieve I hope it will not be my last. If I can afford it I will be a professional student. I love the learning process and I hope to use the love of learning to help me be a high-quality professor. I researched six universities offering a primarily online curriculum. Northcentral while utilizing different online tools than I used in my other degrees was the most conducive to my schedule (long work hours on some days plus travel). Within the next five years I hope to be both a high-level manager in my current field as well as a university professor. I am looking for adjunct professorships at this time but the three I have applied for want three years of classroom experience. I have reviewed the Northcentral resources and I am comfortable with all I have seen thus far. Like most pursuing a doctorate the dissertation defense worries me the most. While I am comfortable with the research I am not very good at remembering facts and details. The two outside resources I have recently read were both from the American Management Association website. The first one was titled “Developing Global-Minded Leaders to Drive High Performance” which examined companies and their leadership finding many companies to be at risk when it came to being global-minded. (American Management Association 2015). The second article was titled “Acceptance of Telecommuting Project Management Grows”; this article discussed telecommuting and the challenges experienced by companies which are using telecommuting for project management (Coleman 2014).
