About

This is an individual assignment.

In this assignment, you are required to produce an Annotated Bibliography to demonstrate the quality and depth of your reading and research pertaining to the fundementals of data analytics. Annotated Bibliography is “a list of references (i.e. bibliography) which includes a brief summary of each article reviewed, and often a brief comment about the usefulness of each one” ().

The aim of this assessment is not only to assess your ability to evaluate the connections between the data analytics fundamentals (probability, linear algebra) and their applications at large, but also encourage the development of basic research skills. These skills can be crucial in many practical data analytics scenarios.

According to CDU Guide to Annotated Bibliography, completing an annotated bibliography assignment can also:

o help you think through various issues related to your chosen subject

o provide a summary of experts ideas that can be used for assignments at a later stage, such as thesis

o review the literature of a particular subject

Tasks

Select one concept of data analytics fundamentals you learn in Week 1 to Week 3 as your annotated bibliography topic. This concept must pertain to probability distribution or linear algebra, but not both. Be as precise as possible with the topic. For example, the topic “probability” is too general. Instead, narrow your selection to something more specific such as “bayesian rule” or “Gaussian distribution” or “binomial distribution” or “Poisson distribution”, etc.

Once the topic is selection, complete the following 3 tasks:

1. Explain the motivation for the chosen topic, followed by at most 2 research questions to be answered through your annotated bibliography. You must also explain in detail the methodology you will use for searching the bibliographic sources. These should not exceed 1 page.

2. Carefully search and compile your sources. You are required to incorporate exactly 5 sources in your annotated bibliography. To be organised, you may use bibliography management software such as Endnote, Mendeley or Zotero, but this is not compulsory and will not be evaluated. You must prioritise peer-reviewed sources.

3. For each of the selected sources, produce your annotated bibliography. This should include but not limited to the details below. The annotated bibliography for each source should not exceed 1 page.

o the full bibliographic details of the source (you MUST use CDU’s Harvard Referencing style)

o the main argument of the source and key ideas, especially how your selected topic is applied

o your discussion/commentary of the work in ways that relate to your research questions

You MUST write the annotated bibliography in your own words.

To help you. CDU provides a detailed on how to summarise, paraphrase, and quote original sources.
