English assignment

One of the characteristic features of A Thousand and One Nights (or Arabian Nights) is how stories proliferate. As part of Shahrazads deferral of her execution through storytelling, tales multiply, thus also multiplying the nights spent telling them. These stories even fit together in distinct ways, in relation to the frame-narrative as a story-within-a-story, or thematically, i.e. clever characters who avoid death much like Shahrazad.

1. For this assignment, compose your own tale (300-500 words) and add it to the Thousand and One Nights. First, choose a point in the narrative to insert your tale; you must include a few sentences in brackets from the original at the beginning of your post. Then, seamlessly tie in your own tale to Shahrazads, either by imitating the style of the stories or through some other link (by theme, content, etc.).

EXAMPLE: [Shahrazad turned to King Shahrayar and said, May I have your permission to tell a story? He replied Yes, and Shahrazad was very happy and said, Listen:]

Once there was a young prince in faraway kingdometc. etc.
