Trauma-related Psychiatric Disorders

The purpose of this assignment is to examine trauma-related psychiatric disorders, including Acute Stress Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and other co-occurring symptoms. So far, in our course readings and discussions, we have explored how individuals and communities are affected by trauma-related psychiatric symptoms. We have explored risk and protective factors, and barriers to mental health care, which always need to be considered following exposure to trauma.
In order to complete this assignment:
1). Explain the distinction between Acute Stress Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, in terms of symptoms and diagnoses of these disorders.
2). Discuss the main risk and protective factors for the development of ASD/PTSD. Why is knowledge of these factors important for psychological assessment?
3). Explain the impact of ASD/PTSD on communities, and also explain how common co-occurring disorders (e.g., substance use disorders) affect communities
4). Explain how stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders effects treatment-seeking behavior with first responders
In addressing these areas, you must provide information from at least two (2) scholarly sources (which are peer-reviewed journal articles or published books) that are not already provided as part of the course, and for all concepts you must show where you have learned your information by citing your sources in general.
Please use APA formatting for sources, which includes both in-text citations and a reference page. For assistance and resources on APA formatting style, please see the APUS Writing Center at Writing@APUS.
Work should be submitted in a Word document (doc. or docx.) and be about 8 pages in length (excluding the required title and reference page).
