 1.  Where is the Parthenon located? To whom was it dedicated? Why? Explain the themes of the  Doric  frieze  sculptures  and  the  Ionic  frieze  sculptures.  Also  detail  the  story  of  the pediment  sculptures  in  one  of  the  two  pediments.  Be  specific.  Why  were  these  themes and stories so important to the ancient Athenians? 

2.  The ancient Romans were exceptional propagandists. Compare and contrast the Head of a  Roman  Patrician,  Augustus  of  Primaporta  and  The  Equestrian  Statue  of  Marcus Aurellius. How is each representing the ideal leader? What is verism? On which portrait is  it  used,  and  why?  Why  are  the  emperors  portrayed  so  differently  than  the  patrician? Use  unit  terms  and  detail  specific  choices  the  artists  made  that  symbolize  each  mans power and status. 

3.  Ife  is  a  sacred  site  of  the  Yoruba  people  who  practice  the  religion  If.  From  my powerpoint, and from the videos on Smarthistory, explain the possible significance of the holes in the sculptures, the lines of the faces, and how these sculptures may have been used.  Why  is  the  facial  expression  so  important?  Explain  the  technique  artists  used  to create the hollow, metal sculptures.
