Networking via technologies provides us with almost limitless access to information and endless possibilities for collaboration while overcoming the traditional constraints of time, locations, and geographical boundaries. Such networking has also created opportunities for career advancement and business partnerships. For example, social networking sites such as LinkedIn allow you to communicate with a larger pool of potential customers, buyers, and businesses (even employers) than traditional, in-person networking. I am sure most of you actively maintain your profile on LinkedIn to take advantage of free exposure and be visible in your profession while networking with other professionals and experts in this highly competitive, fast-changing market. Of course, there are potential downfalls of such social networking. In-person networking, for example, offers customers and businesses a much more personal and individual experience, which may take more time to establish but provides each individual more personalized attention than social networking can offer. We will explore both opportunities and challenges presented by social networking in this discussion.
