Faith Integration Assignment:
Choose a U.S. alliance with a Muslim-majority state in the Middle East, and analyze it from a Christian faith-based perspective. Your analysis should examine each of the following:
What is the underlying reason for the U.S. alliance? (Note: you should be able to determine most of this info from course readings).
What, if any, concerns does the allied country raise in terms of human rights, particularly religious freedom and the treatment of religious minorities? (Note: the U.S. government produces international religious freedom reports on every country in the world, as well as broader reports on human rights. Other human rights NGOs such as Freedom House produce similar reports).
From a Christian perspective, how should we think about the prudential concerns for the U.S. alliance versus the concerns Christians naturally have for human rights and the treatment of fellow co-religionists? How, if at all, does the relationship between the state you chose and other U.S. allies in the region factor into this calculation?
What, if any, recommendations would you make to change the relationship and better balance the imperatives discussed above, in accordance with Christian worldview principles?
