In this discussion you will share your experience with the role-play. But before you reflect on your role-play experience, you should set the stage for the class in terms of the agency, the client, and the issues they presented with initially.
Reflecting on your role as the worker, given that this is a role-play that in and of itself creates some awkwardness if you are not an actor by trade, post a response to the following:
How did Shulman’s conceptualization work for you in framing the session?
What was fluid and natural for you in this role-play? What challenges were you aware of in this role-play? In using motivational interviewing in this session?
Identify the client’s stage of the change cycle. What evidence leads you to this from the role-play?
How did you feel through this session? Did you identify any client transference? Any countertransference? Any parallel process?
Talk about your experience in the role of your client. Did this help you to understand your client any differently? How did it impact the empathy you have for your client?
Review the video when you were the worker and provide a self-analysis. What did you do well? What would you do differently? What would you like to work on? What was your overall impression of how you did?
What was surprising or unexpected?
What will you take away from this activity and from the module?
