The findings of the study were the leading causes of deaths for each age group. This study is beneficial for public health because it helps to improve health and reduce the burden of disease by highlighting what health issues need to be focused on. The study found that because of the variance in results from country to country, the global approach must be targeted. This is useful information because if the study were done in only one country or region the data wouldn’t have been fully applicable to other countries and regions. The study brought awareness to important health problems and is useful in creating a strategy to combat these barriers to wellness.

The study also found an association with an increase in DALYs for unsafe sex, alcohol misuse, and other factors (Mokdad Et Al, 2016). Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) is a way to measure how nonfatal health outcomes take a toll on a person and can lead to premature death due to the burden of the disease (Grosse Et Al, 2009). For example, the study found that alcohol misuse was the highest risk factor for DALYs at 7% average for both sexes (Mokdad Et Al, 2016). This means that abusing alcohol can be associated with an increased risk of a decreased lifespan due to the estimated effects of that exposure.
