Expand on the 5th wave of technology innovation by giving some clear examples of information technology that we could say is helping shape this definition. And, do you agree with the timeframe for this 5th wave as being 1990-2020. Compare and contrast.

Good morning All,

Good morning. This week we are discussing, 5th wave of technology innovation by giving some clear examples of information technology that we could say is helping shape this definition. Looking at this at a transportation point of view it is clear to me that there is a correlation with the ITV (in transit visibility) for the cargo systems. The type of ITV that is used a lot in the US Air Force is the Global Air Transportation Execution system (GATES) that is linked with the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tag. These are linked and transfer the information over the internet and satellite systems.

These systems are integral to the tracking ability of the assets that get shipped throughout the world. Many times the cargo that is being shipped will get lost and the ping from the RFID makes it possible to find such lost cargo when it is dropped from the system. Many new systems are being developed for the tracking of cargo and it is only allowed due to the internet which opened so many doors in the 5th wave. These type of innovations where the start of the 5th wave and has been continuing for those systems. I do agree that the time frame is 1990-2020 for the 5th wave as that was the beginning of all the innovations for the cyber age.

In conclusion these type of innovations have been very helpful. To look back at how this occurred and the thought that went into it is amazing. To say that the information age has developed many innovations is an understatement. The issue that I see in my experience is the infrastructure of the countries in which the systems must operate need to be up to date with the innovations.

The 5th wave of technology innovation will revolutionize how people deal with emotion and psychological impact on expanding knowledge and unrelenting change. (Hahn, 2016) In other words, the 5th wave of technology innovation will allow us to compute data faster and suppose to enable faster and smarter working. There are three technologies that leads to the 5th wave of technology and they are Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G.  The AI technology allows for machine learning and we can see this in many manufacturing plants e.g., automobile plants, Walmart distribution centers and Amazon plants. The IoT technology allows for monitoring in homes, vehicles, and workplace. There are a few IoT devices that have made a change in todays world and some are home security like Ring Bell, sensors for lights that cut lights off when there is no motion detected, and vehicle locaters. Lastly, there is the 5G which not only allows for faster phone connection but also Wi-Fi.

I really dont agree with the timeframe because as we see the technologies in the 5th wave are still revolving. I believe these technologies have been started and worked on before 1990 and that was just a timeframe when information was leaked. The next wave, the 6th wave of technology and innovation is about the reduction of waste and how we can do more with fewer resources. This has been talked about for years in the term of recycling and therefore I do not agree with the timeframe.
