Japanese Manga

3-5 pages, 1200 word max. In this paper you will choose two or more works
used in class (anime or manga) and provide the Introduction, and formal description of
Paper 1 with the addition of a Close Reading (1-3 pages). The Close Reading should select a
particular scene(s) from the work to exam in detail in order to make a critical argument
toward the work. You should make your selection of scene(s) based on aspects of the work
you find significant as a piece of art, narrative, or visual culture. *You must include images
(screenshots) from the works you choose in the body of the paper. It is important to cite only
where the image came from (page # ex. (Bolton, 299); or time code, ex. [02:37]) in addition
to including the image.
You should consider this class NC-17. Because we hold the idea that freedom to
teach and freedom to learn are inseparable facets of academic freedom, we hope students to
be able to participate in a mature discussion about material while providing space to set
individual boundaries.
