When a criminal act is committed the processes needed and implemented to identify the responsible party or perpetrator(s) must be valid and exact for the needed resolutions regarding all involved entities. Forensic science and its many processes and areas allow law enforcement to connect relative and appropriate science to a criminal act and its processes and various levels. It provides the who, what, when, where and even why regarding crime details and facts. Forensic science applies the knowledge and technology of science to the definition and enforcement of such laws (Saferstein & Roy, 2021, p. 3, para.1). Forensic science is a compilation of professionals with skill sets that can assist law enforcement agencies with investigating and providing conclusive evidence to cement the presumption of the event and the facts together. According to the Academy of Forensic Science the diversity of professions falls under the11 following areas:
- Criminalistics
- Digital and Multimedia Sciences
- Engineering Science
- General
- Jurisprudence
- Odontology
- Pathology/Biology
- Physical Anthropology
- Psychiatry/Behavioral Science
- Questioned Documents
- Toxicology
(Saferstein et al, 2021, p. 3, para. 6).
Traditional detective work and forensic science have a partnership of cohesion that connects like a finger with the exact sized ring. Forensic science enhances, fits and presents the total package.
