Skills and Traits Revisited

Review the response you gave for the second discussion in Unit 1 regarding your own personal strengths and skills in relation to early childhood education. After all your reading and work in this course, how do you feel your initial statements regarding your own strengths will help you? Do you see any personal areas that you need to strengthen in preparation for this role?

My response from Unit 1

I find it difficult to recognize the qualities I possess as a teacher. However, I can envision the qualities that I would like to possess as an early childhood educator.  I would like to be able to communicate with my students in a way that is age-appropriate and effective. It is also important to develop skills in communicating with families about their children’s skills, abilities, and achievements to provide the best learning experiences for their children. Another important quality I would like to have is to be passionate about teaching.  I believe that children will respond well to someone who is passionate about teaching and helping them learn.  Dedication and devotion to teaching will lead to great learning outcomes for children.  Organization is another vital quality I would like to have because being an organized teacher will result in healthy, effective classroom management. Children need routines and structure in order to flourish in the classroom. Lastly, it is important to respect that every child and their family is unique. Being aware of, and working with, the different strengths of each child can improve the effectiveness of teachers practices.
