Review the course materials and conduct your own research on substance abuse screening and treatment planning. Specifically, examine the Biopsychosocial SA Focused instrument. In addition to this instrument, how else could a counselor determine if a clients substance use is becoming problematic? What types of questions might a counselor ask to determine if a client has a co-occurring disorder? When working with a client who appears to have a substance use problem, at what point would you consider suggesting inpatient or partial treatment services? Last, provide one empirically based strategy for prevention of, and one intervention for treating a substance use or abuse disorder.
