SGT to SSG Vignette
You are a Staff Sergeant, and the Squad leader for your section. Your Team Leader, Sergeant Smith, got arrested over the weekend for Driving Under the Influence and blew a .083 on the breathalyzer. What are the initial reporting requirements for you, your Commander, the Battalion Commander, and the Regiment Commander? What administrative actions will you take on this Soldier, and what punitive actions will you recommend? Would your recommendations change if he had blown a higher BAC level, such as .174? Why?

You are the Squad Leader and one of your NCOs, SGT Nelson, is assigned to your squad. He is concerned that his daughter is having a chronic respiratory illness exacerbated by mold growing inside one of the bathrooms of his on post home. He has submitted work-orders to DPW, but they have not satisfactorily resolved the issue and most recently have installed a lock on the bathroom door to prevent it from being used by the family. What would you recommend to this Soldier? What actions would you take?

SPC Reynolds resides in the barracks, and as her Squad leader, she has come to you for advice. She wants to move out of the barracks and into a house that is being rented by a group of her friends. In addition, she wants your help to apply for BAH to help offset the cost of rent. Is she allowed to live off post, and if so, is she authorized BAH? What would you recommend to this Soldier? What leader actions might you take to prevent any disciplinary or financial issues?
