Module 3 – SLPEMPLOYMENT-AT-WILL AND LEGAL COMPLIANCE
For this module’s SLP, we will focus on the importance of documenting in writing the process of discipline steps taken in an employee situation. Read the following article:
Flanagan, L. (2020, July 9). 7 rules to create solid documentation. Telegraph – Herald. Available in the Trident Online Library.
The following video is about past mistakes companies made that caused them to be the recipient of wrongful termination lawsuits:
Front Line Leadership. (2018, October 8). Avoid these disciplinary mistakes. YouTube. https://youtu.be/I7bOwU6VvCE Standard YouTube license.
Put yourself in the role of an HR Manager advising line supervisors on how to document any disciplinary action given by the supervisor. From the 6 common disciplinary documentation mistakes set forth in the Front Line Leadership (2018) article, choose 4 that you think are the most important to focus on.
Prepare a PowerPoint slide presentation with audio (and speaker notes at the bottom of each slide). Your goal is to provide line supervisors with specific right and wrong examples of each of the 4 documentation mistakes you have chosen. Draw upon the background readings on progressive discipline to support your “right approach” to Progressive Discipline documentation and explain in your presentation how this “right approach” should guide the supervisors.
