Introduction To Psychology 1

PSY101 – Introduction to Psychology
Citing Sources, Academic Honesty, and Plagiarism
Due Date: 11:59 p.m. EST, Sunday of Unit 1
Points: 0 or 100
Overview:
For all written work in this course, it is expected that you will write using your own words. As
you discuss psychological concepts, theories, and research results, you will learn to
communicate using the “language” and terminology of psychology. When you describe the
theory or research results of others, you must relay the main ideas in your own words. This
can be challenging at first, but it is important to build this necessary skill. As we go through
the units in this course, we will provide you with information and tools to maximize your
success in this area.
Instructions:
1. Read the following course requirements for writing in Psychology courses at Post
University:
• You will give credit to others when you are discussing their ideas, theories, and
research. To start, in Unit 1 Discussion Boards, you must include any outside
links you used in obtaining information for your discussion. In later units, you will
learn about appropriately attributing credit to others by using American
Psychological Association (APA) style in-text citations and APA style references
(Note: If you feel comfortable in early units using APA style citations, you are
encouraged to incorporate them!).
• Direct quoting from the work of others is not used in psychology courses. Quoting
is not permitted because it is important to show you understand the content of
what you are reading and can explain it in your own words. Taking material from
others and putting quotation marks around the content does not illustrate your
understanding. Instead of quoting, communicate the ideas of others in your own
words.
• Copying and pasting content from any source is not permitted and violates Post
University’s Academic Integrity policy. Click on the University Policies link in the
course’s navigation menu and scroll to the Academic Integrity section to
familiarize yourself with this policy.
• Watch this video to understand what plagiarism is, why plagiarism is ethically
problematic, and ways to avoid plagiarism.
2. After reviewing these materials, you will confirm that you have reviewed and
understand all of this information so any questions you have can be answered right
away. If you have questions, reach out to your instructor before signing.
