Select three Internet sources on any historical topic of your choice. For this assignment, you are not limited to edu, gov, or org – the purpose of this is to practice evaluating Internet sources so your selected Internet sites do not need to be serious academic sources. Utilize Chapter 6 of University Success, “Research & Writing Essays,” to assist you in completing this assignment.
1. For your three selected websites, briefly answer the following questions:
- When was the website last updated? Is the information up-to-date and current?
- Is the site itself relevant to your research topic or is it just a page from an unrelated website?
- Is the author authoritative? Is the information verifiable? Are sources cited? Who sponsored the work?
- Do the cited sources come from a variety of origins or are they limited or an echo chamber?
- Are there errors on the webpage or does it show signs of being edited?
2. In 300-450 words, review your experience, how easy was it to confirm the quality or usability of a website?
3. In 300-450 words, did you find it easier to find academically sound websites or was it easier to find non-academically sound websites for your chosen topic?
Turabian style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected. This assignment uses a scoring guide. Please review the scoring guide prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
