Assignment: Create a comic strip story that compares and contrasts the three different states of matter.

Solids, liquids, and gases

Matter can exist in three different forms. For example, water can exist as a solid (ice), a liquid (ocean water), and a gas (water vapor). Each state of matter differs from the other due to the behavior of its particles. See the diagram below for a detailed comparison of the properties of solids, liquids, and gases.

COMIC EXPECTATIONS

  • Your comic should compare and contrast the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. The 6 basic properties of each state of matter should be included within your comic in a unique way (refer to the property chart above).
  • You must indicate whether heat is being added or removed where appropriate within your comic.For instance, if your character is morphing from a solid to a liquid, heat would be added. If your character is going from a liquid to a solid, heat would be removed.
  • Your comic must contain illustrated scenes and dialogue, within comic bubbles, that match your storyline. You also must include a drawing of what the particles look like inside each state of matter.
