Rating Protocol and Findings Report

As you know, sustainability involves social and economic, as well as environmental goals and challenges.  As you also know, the best sustainability strategy includes policies and programs that correspond to more than one of the “three E’s.”  Many communities have recently engaged in the development of “sustainability plans” to help them become more sustainable and find balance in the fulfillment of social, economic, and environmental goals.

Posted on the course website are the sustainability plans of Madison, Wisconsin, and Bridgeport, Connecticut.

For this project, you have been hired as a consultant by the city of Bridgeport to analyze the quality of its plan by using a protocol to compare it with Madison’s.

There are two elements of this analysis:

·      Element 1 (5 points): Use the “Project 4 Rating Protocol” table below to evaluate the two plans by assigning a numerical rating to each of the key elements.[1]  Your rating should reflect your opinion as to how well the plan accomplishes each of the listed objectives in terms of policies and actions.[2],[3]

Be careful how you evaluate and then rate the elements, as your completed protocol will be scored based on how well it matches with a scoring key that combines my score with your peers.

·      Element 2 (10 points): After completing your protocol table, go to the last page of this worksheet and type a short (1-2 pages, single-spaced) discussion of four key strengths or weaknesses of the Bridgeport plan compared to the Madison plan.  Derive your discussion from your protocol table.
