Discussion:

The aim of this Discussion Board is for you to update and revise your clinical question. In your MSN 600: Theoretical Foundations of Nursin Practice course, you began the journey of developing a PICOT question. In this course, you will have a well-constructed PICOT question that as the foundation for constructing a high-quality study – a necessary component of your MSN Capstone project.

  1. Identify the topic of Interest and write it out in a PICO question format.
  2. Identify the PICO type and explain why it “fits” your topic of interest, provide rationale.
  3. What is the primary type of research design that aligns with your PICO question and provide rationale.
  4. Choose a Nursing Theory /Model that aligns with your topic/project, Explain the chosen theory/ Model Briefly.
  5. Explain how the application of the Theory/Model will help guide nursing practice specific to your topic/project.

Initial discussion criteria required elements:

  • Answered all question prompts.
  • Identified, interpreted, or inferred to the discussion topic being addressed.
  • Explored and/or explained the topic and how it applied to the discussion forum.
  • Analyzed the topic being discussed and applied it to a fact

Complete Part 1 of the worksheet for this discussion – this is a tool for you, it does not need to be submitted with the discussion board. Utilize P to help you formulate answers in the discussion post

ik about a topic of interest or problem that is of interest.

  1. Identify your problem using the PICOT:Patient/Problem -Who is your patient? (Disease or Health status, age, race, sex):Intervention- What do you plan to do for the patient? (Specific tests, therapies, medications):

Comparison – What is the alternative to your plan? (i.e., No treatment, different type of treatment, etc.):

Outcome – What outcome do you seek? (Less symptoms, no symptoms, full health, etc.):

Time – What is the time frame? (This element is not always included.

  1. 2. Next, write out the PICO in a question format:
  2. Your PICOT question will fall under one of these types:

Your PICOT question will fall under one of these types:

Therapy/Prevention

Diagnosis

Etiology

Prognosis

3. Identify the PICO question type (depends on what and how the question is formulated)

  • Therapy (best treatment for interventions)
  • Prevention (Prevent this problem)

_Diagnosis/Assessment (best way to assess or diagnostic test for patient)

  • Causation (cause of the problem)
  • Prognosis (long term effects of the problem)
  • Meaning (meaning of the experience to the patient’s)

4. Once the PICO type is identified, it is easier to determine the type of primary research that is specific to the type pf clinical question

Therapy: Randomized controlled trials (RCT), Controlled trials

Prevention: Randomized controlled trials (RCT), Controlled trials

Diagnosis/Assessment: Instrument development research

Causation: Cohort, Case control, Descriptive, or Qualitative studies Prognosis: Cohort or descriptive studies.

Meaning: Qualitative studies

5. Identify terms/topics from PICO that can be searched

Part II PICO search

  1. Identify terms/topics from PICO that can be searched
  2. What terms might you exclude from your search?
  3. Determine inclusion criteria (age, gender, publication year, etc.)?
  4. Which scholarly search engines do you plan on using?
  5. Keep track of publication type and citation

“Hi

This question does follow the PICO format :

P- Patient/population/problem ( Adults diagnosed with MDD)

I-Intervention- what you are doing — participation in peer support program

C-Comparison – standard counseling services

O- Outcome – greater improvement in mood disorder symptoms ( specifics of what is being looked for in each comparison may be defined later)

T-Time – within a six month period following initiation of treatment

So, I do not see anything that I see needs to be altered.

Hope this helps!

Have a good afternoon,”
