For this essay, you will be selecting a painting, from any artist and time period, that provides a symbolic portrait of yourself, your life, your memories, your thinking, and/or your perspective on the world. This portrait can be more abstractly symbolic of you and does not have to depict a face or human being: objects, landscapes, blocks of color, anything is permitted. Just be sure to choose something with enough details to sustain your analysis (and self-analysis). This essay will also include a research component, as you will provide some context on the painting for readers unfamiliar with it. Please include quoted support from at least three researched academic critical sources in your essay.
