After familiarizing yourself with ways to fix and strengthen awkward and wordy sentences, look for examples of those types of problem sentences in the written material of your daily life. Look for these wordy and/or awkward sentences in documents at work and online. The sentences should not be grammatically incorrect, but instead are wordy, overly abstract and/or awkwardly phrased.
(Do not run a specific online search for examples of wordy or awkwardly phrased sentences. You need to notice them in writing you read in your everyday situations.)
Find three weak and/or wordy sentences and then rewrite one for each of the Owl’s suggestions for revising sentences: Concision, Eliminating Words, Changing Phrases and Avoiding Common Pitfalls.
Your Post Should Contain:
1. The original sentence.
2. The source for that original sentence. (Where you found the sentence.)
3. Your rewrite.
4. The method you used for rewriting, (e.g. Eliminating Words/Omitting Repetitive Words.)
