You must write a letter, engaging with ideas from the original text and arguing in support of/against them. Doing the following will help with this:
You must quote specific things that Amy Chua says, stating what they mean and why you agree/disagree.
You must comment on the language/tone that Amy Chua uses as a way of agreeing with/criticising what she says.
You must develop ideas in the text by bringing in your own opinions, argument and research.
You must have a clear context in which you are writing:
A clear and convincing voice of the persona you are writing from
A clear and convincing purpose for your letter
A clear standpoint – not a balanced argument, but showing awareness of the opposing side as a way of strengthening your own ideas.
OPTION 2:
You are a parent who has recently read Amy Chua’s book (you will need to think of a valid reason WHY?). Write to Amy Chua criticising or agreeing with her parenting style, explaining how the ideas in the text had an impact on you.
