Critical Assignment: Family Case Presentation (clients Adrian, Judy, and Pam)
The purpose of this critical assignment is for students to compose a Family Case Presentation that presents a comprehensive description of the therapeutic treatment of the family of Adrian (dad), Judy (mom), and Pam (adult daughter) from the psychotherapy videos (please see attachments)
The presentation should include the following sections and these subheadings are required in the presentation:
FAMILY DEMOGRAPHICS AND HISTORY this section should include information about the family demographics (e.g., age, ethnicity, religion, marital status, etc. of all family members); familys relevant history (e.g., summary of family trauma history, significant conflicts, SES, etc.)
PRESENTING COMPLAINTS this section should include the history of the presenting problem(s); specific current complaints and problematic patterns in the family; timeline of the problem(s); current status of relationships within the family.
THERAPY ORIENTATION student will choose one preferred theory that was used with this family in one of the videos (Structural, Object Relations, Bowenian, Solution-Oriented) and present the following: founder(s) of the theory; foundational tenets; key techniques; role of the therapist; why this orientation is effective for this specific family based on theoretical or research evidence. Students should cite at least 2 peer-reviewed sources in this section.
TREATMENT PLAN student will present a hypothetical treatment plan, which includes at least 3 individualized goals.
Each of the 3 goals includes a list of objectives for reaching the goal and specific interventions that would be implemented to reach each goal; treatment plan should clearly align with the therapy orientation used; student should provide commentary on how the specific treatment methods are evidence-based and why they were selected. Students should cite at least 2 peer-reviewed sources in this section.
COUNTERTRANSFERENCE REACTIONS this section should include comments about what countertransference reactions were experienced during the one or more of the family sessions; the presentation should also include suggestions for how a therapist ought to manage reactions to avoid contaminating treatment; student should also comment on how a therapists own faith/values may interfere with treatment of this family.
FOLLOW UP RESOURCES students should present a recommended follow-up plan for the family. Plan should include at least 3 potential referral suggestions, which can include recommendations for activities/tasks that the family members can complete on their own. At least 2 academic sources are used and cited when presenting the recommended follow-up resources. At least 1 faith-based resource/activity is suggested.
Students are encouraged to be creative and make the presentation interesting to view, as would be necessary if this presentation were going to be shown to a live audience.
