Randomized controlled trials are considered by the scientific community to be the most credible method of obtaining evidence of the safety and efficacy of a prevention intervention, i.e a vaccine. Completing these trials, especially for a vaccine, is a long and arduous process. Using what you learned in Chapters 5 and 6 about epidemiology, its limits and its problems, answer the following questions:

What ethical considerations are relevant to designing a clinical trial of a vaccine in the midst of an epidemic?
Is the use of a placebo (no treatment) ethically acceptable in research conducted in a situation when a virus is deadly and there are minimal effective treatments?

Postings should be fully developed and fully answer the questions above. YOU MUST USE IN TEXT CITATIONS TO CREDIT AUTHORS WHEN YOU USE THEIR WORK.
