In Chapter 5 in your textbook you will be exploring state constitutions. State constitutions were the earliest constitutions in the country and were the basis for many of those earliest amendments added to the U.S. Constitution. There are a variety of rights and liberties communicated within them. This assignment requires you to explore a state constitution. It can be your state or another state that is interesting to you. State constitutions are public available documents. You can go to each states website and find it or you can use the Maryland State Constitutions Project to search all state constitutions:
http://www.stateconstitutions.umd.edu/index.aspx
In your exploration of a states constitution, consider what are the rights and liberties conveyed through the different amendments. Outline these with references to each particular amendment i.e. what is the right or liberty and where is it granted. You are also asked to consider for this assignment what is missing and what might be added to the states constitution. Are there any rights / liberties that should be included in the state constitution? Make sure you are aware of the amendment process. This process is usually outlined in the constitution itself, but if it is not, you can find this easily through Google. As with the previous two assignments, your submission should have sections. The first section should be an outline of all the rights and liberties granted in the state constitution of your choice. The second section should explore what is missing i.e. right and liberties that you think should be included in the state constitution. The third section should consider how a state amendment passes in that state and the likelihood of that happening with your recommended rights and liberties. The formatting requirements are the same as the first two assignments.
