This class is largely about using economics to help managers who work in businesses. For this week’s discussion, I would like you to think about the larger role that business plays in society. I would like you to think about Ephesians 4:28, which reads, “He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.” The King James version of this verse uses the word “good” instead of useful. I think this verse can be used to set up a framework for thinking about the larger role that business plays in society. Paul encourages the Ephesians to do something useful (or good) with their own hands…In what ways is business useful or good? In what ways is business not useful or good? Do you think that business is largely a good force or bad force in our society?
