2. One-third of current active physicians will be 65 or older and consider retirement, which will impact the physician supply.
B. Beyond demographics, there is uncertainty about the future policy regarding health insurance and care financing.
1. Some contend that appealing to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will fix the physician shortage.
2. Projections indicate that if the ACA is replaced with policies and programs that reduce the current coverage, future physician demands will decrease from only 6000 to 10,000 physicians.
