uring the colonial period in Latin America (Latinoamrica) 1492-1810, there was a racial ideology being institutionalized In Las pinturas de castas The Caste Paintings or Genre Paintings. These paintings were to determine how close of being pure of blood= (Iberico) European Christian the person was/is. The more Spaniard a person had in their blood the better person he/she was, and concencluently could escalated higher socially speaking. This racial conception was imposed in all Latin America, The Philippines, Africa and all the territories colonized by Spain during this period. Now, in Latin America, we believe that by being mestizos (mixed) Indigenous and Europeans we are homogeneous. We know that this is not true. That this racial ideology during the colonial period was created to invisibilize the diversity of cultures in the Americas. Nowadays, in Mxico for example, during the Census 95.5% of the population recorded no ties with black ancestry. This is a perfect example of how Afrolatinos were/are invisible in present day Mexico.
