A&P Discussion

Overview

After exploring the content for this module, you should be ready to discuss the topics at a deeper level with your classmates. Metabolism is the sum of the biological processes that occurs in an organism in order to sustain life. There are many factors that contribute to metabolism. We will discuss the effect of macromolecule intake on renal function, as well as how the nephron is optimized for urine production.

Instructions

  1. In a post of at least 300 words, respond to the following:
    1. Discuss how the kidneys process carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins, and the effect that an imbalance of these three macromolecules can have on renal function.
    2. Examine how the gross and histological structure of the kidney facilitates urine production during: 1) glomerular filtration, 2) tubular reabsorption, and 3) tubular secretion.
  2. Respond to at least 2 of your peers. In each of your response posts, link to a resource from a scientific journal that you think is excellent that provides information about homeostatic imbalances in the urinary system.
    1. First, directly copy a paragraph or excerpt from the chosen source that you think enhances your peers post.
    2. Next, paraphrase and summarize the information from the paragraph you copied using your own words.
    3. You should also explain why or how the information enhances or extends the information provided. See the Grading and Evaluation section in the Syllabus module for links to research databases at the CCCOnline Library.
  3. Evaluate the sources for one response that is posted to your initial post, and explain why each source is or is not a valid resource.
  4. All references must be cited using APA Style format.
