Short Assignment: Applying Correctional Theories to Practice
For each type of punishment, sanction, or sentence listed in the table below, identify which correctional theory or theories might be used to justify the use of this form of social control. In some cases, more than one theory could be used to justify a given punishment strategy. Individually decide how/why it is consistent with one or more of the six primary theories of punishment discussed in the class lecture notes (e.g., please justify each punishment type with the corresponding theory/ies) The six correctional theories we have discussed include: retribution/just deserts; deterrence; incapacitation; restoration; rehabilitation; and prevention/early intervention.
