Argumentative essay

The argumentative synthesis builds on the exploratory synthesis by asking you to not only demonstrate the connections between various texts but also to support your own ideas about the topic. Just like the exploratory synthesis, you summarize, paraphrase, and quote from sources while also considering how the different sources agree or disagree with each other (compare and contrast). The grade for this paper will be determined by how carefully you synthesize ideas, demonstrate understanding of the texts, and support an argument about an issue or issues discussed in the texts. You will also be graded on how well you integrate the source materials and how accurately and ethically you document the sources. Because this essay is a major writing assignment, I will grade the final version of your essay using the Hinds District Wide Rubric for Documented Essays.

In order to get the most out of this assignment, you should pretend that you are submitting the final version of your draft. You will be expected to submit a complete rough draft that meets the 1500 word minimum of your argumentative essay. Your argumentative essay must include a works cited page that contains citations for all of the texts that you summarize, paraphrase, and directly quote in your essay. Essays should be formatted in 2016 MLA style. All papers should be double- spaced and written in 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks, and set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.    The topic is the news effort to clean up its misinformation after the election.
