You will write a formal analysis on an artwork of your choice from the . Your paper should be 2 – 3 pages, in APA format. Please make sure that you include an image of the work of art you are analyzing.
Your paper should include the following:
Introduction:
The introduction should identify the title of the work of art, the name of the artist, and the date when it was created. You may also indicate the medium, the period in which it was created and its current location. While biographical information about the artist is not necessary, if you know something about the artists interests or the interests of the period that may have influenced this work, you may include it here.
Body/Analysis:
This is where you should describe the artwork. You will analyze what the prominent elements are in the artwork. Do not simply list the elements. In most cases it may take 2-3 sentences to fully describe an element. You will also describe how the elements create the principles. It is very important to describe what areas of the artwork you are drawn to or how your eye moves through the work.
Conclusion/ Interpretation:
The conclusion may summarize your findings and relate back to your analysis of the elements and principles. Your analysis will support your interpretation of the work.You may also include any new ideas, insights, or understandings you gained about the work through the analysis process.
Bibliography/ References Page:
The last page of your paper should list any websites, articles, or books you used to conduct research on your artwork. Use APA style formatting.
