- Format according to 7th edition of APA. You do not have to cite OReilly and Tushman using the date each time you mention them in your review. It is sufficient to cite them in the Introduction. - Use the following three (3) level headings: using 7th edition APA: Introduction, Summary, and Recommendations. Each section should be separate in your essay; do not combine or run them together.
Introduction Introduce the book and authors intent. Discuss the relevancy of this book to your study of leading change and innovation.Result of a successful introduction: Your readers will understand the relevance of this book to leadership, change management, innovation studies and why they should want to read it.Summary Write a brief summary of the book. What aspects perhaps lacked added value in terms of change leadership and innovation? - What are the authors key concepts and main points?
- What evidence is provided? Is it credible?
- What are their findings and conclusions?
Result of a successful summary: your readers will know, in general, what ideas the book conveys and their value.Recommendations This section is where you offer your knowledgeable opinion, based on the objective and factual statements you made in the preceding sections of your review. Would you recommend this book to someone wanting to learn more about innovation and change leadership? Your recommendation(s) should be consistent in substance and tone with your summary section.In this section of your book review, selectively choose questions from the list below. The questions will help you assess the value of the authors work.
- What had you hoped to learn/gain from this book? To what extent were your expectations met?
- What did you learn about the different types of leadership that drives innovation?
- What did you learn about how innovation drives sustainability?
- What are your own values on the subject addressed? To what extent do they align with what you believe are the authors values?
- To what extent does the book make a contribution to your own learning about change leadership, leadership, strategic renewal, innovative thinking or that of others who might read this book?
Result of a successful recommendation: your readers will know your educated opinion (free from emotive language) about the value of the authors work.
