Assignment: Comparative Analysis of Ethics Codes

 

 The first APA Ethics Code was created in 1953, 60 years after the founding of the American Psychological Association. Since then, the Ethics Code has undergone 11 revisions with its most recent revision occurring in 2016. While each set of revisions has improved the Ethics Code, both in terms of broadening and adding to ethical standards, significant gaps in the code still persist regarding the practice of I/O psychology. Therefore, as an I/O psychology practitioner, it is important to be aware of other ethical codes that can guide your decision making in the event that the APA Ethics Code is not sufficient.For this Application, you will compare the APA Ethics Code with other non-APA ethics codes. You will also identify existing gaps in the APA Ethics Code as it relates to the practice of I/O psychology.To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Read the article, Introduction to Ethics in Psychology: Historical and Philosophical Grounding. Pay particular attention to the history of the APA Ethics Code and the philosophical foundations in which it is grounded.
  • Read Chapter 6 in The Ethical Practice of Consulting Psychology. Consider the limitations of the APA Ethics Code for consulting psychology roles.
  • Read the Academy of Management, Board Certified Coach, and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) ethical codes of conduct. Compare the content in these ethical codes with the content in the APA Ethics Code.

Write a 3 page paper that addresses the following:

  • Compare and contrast the APA Ethics Codes with the Academy of Management, SHRM, and BCC ethics codes.
  • Describe gaps in the APA ethics code. Explain how you would use aspects of the Academy of Management, SHRM, and BCC ethics codes to address those gaps.
