Assignment:
For this essay, you will write at least 1000 words (no more than 1300 words) in which you compare or contrast two things. This essay follows a traditional format, and thus it should include an introduction (1 paragraph), a body (2-4 paragraphs), and a conclusion (1 paragraph). Your body paragraphs should provide adequate support to prove your thesis statement. In addition, the support in the body paragraphs should be specific and concrete. Furthermore, your paragraphs should have a logical flow and use transitions to aid in that flow.
Your essay should:
· use at least 2 concrete, vivid examples in EACH body paragraph. (Use specific, vivid details that show instead of tell.)
· have a clear, well-written thesis statement, located in the introduction.
· have a hook in the introduction.
· have 2-4 body paragraphs that support and prove your thesis.
· have a conclusion paragraph.
· use transitions correctly and effectively.
· be logically organized (according to one of the two patterns for this type of essay).
· use mostly compound and complex sentences with some simple and compound-complex ones as well.
· have a variety of sentence starts (ways that you start the sentence). Do not always begin with the subject.
· use proper English grammar, punctuation, and spelling are required.
· be formatted according to MLA general page specifications. (See Ch 24.1)
Your essay should NOT include:
· first or second person.
· contractions.
You may NOT write on the following topics:
high school vs. college
cats vs. dogs
two different sports
Iphone vs. Android (or Playstation vs. Xbox)
Online schooling vs. traditional schooling
