Assignment: Leader Relationships
The Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) Theory encourages leaders to be respectful to subordinates and to build relationships with all subordinates for a fair and equitable working environment. Transformational Leadership encourages leaders to be aware of their own behavior in their relationships with subordinates. So, together, these theories might make a big impact on how a leader and the leader’s subordinates unite as a team to create a healthy working environment.
To prepare for this Assignment, go to the LMX 7 Questionnaire and the “Sample Items from the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) Form 5X-Short” of the course text, Leadership: Theory and Practice. Take each survey and be as honest and objective as you can. Keep your scores for analysis in the Final Research Paper.
Write a 2- to 3-page paper describing your experience with the LMX 7 Questionnaire and the “Sample Items from the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) Form 5X-Short.” Analyze how your responses to both questionnaires indicate your personal leadership philosophy. Describe any questionnaire results that may have surprised you. Analyze the impact that the characteristics of the Leadership-Member Exchange Theory and Transformational Leadership might have on your personal leadership style. Explain how these characteristics might help you become a more effective leader.
