Assignment Rubric: Written Assignment 2 (15%): Debunking a Nutrition Myth

There are a number of nutrition “myths” that continue to circulate, despite scientific evidence “debunking” the

claims. Some of the myths are amplified by celebrity actors and celebrity physicians. For this assignment, you will be assigned a common nutrition myth (during the first week of class), and your task is to “debunk” this myth, using

credible sources of nutrition information. Credible sources of nutrition information can include peer-reviewed

research papers, established credible websites, governmental agencies, and so on. In 2,000–2,500 words, you will

provide the background for the myth, the potential harm it may cause, and a careful reasoning why this popular

nutrition myth is actually not credible.

Guidelines: Assignments should be in Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced with 1-inch margins. When

naming your assignment file, be sure to include your last name and the first initial of your first name and the

assignment number (e.g., BeckM_Assignment2). References should be formatted according to the American

Psychology Association (APA) style guide and should be submitted on a new page in the document, instead of

directly below the assignment text. Using a reference manager such as RefWorks or Mendeley is highly

recommended for formatting references and can help save time. Be sure to spell-check your paper. Put the total

word count after the title of your assignment. Submit as a Word document or PDF file to the assignment link in 2CH

on the due date noted by 11:55 p.m. Papers that exceed the maximum word limit will receive a 2-point deduction

for each 100 additional words. Papers submitted late will receive a deduction of 1 point for every 24 hours later.

Papers later than 72 hours will be given a 0.
