Audience Analysis Assignment
For the argument presentation, your instructor will evaluate you on the quality of the presentation and on how well the presentation fits your audience—which are your fellow students.
What do you know about these audience members and what they expect from your presentation? Knowing what you do, how will persuade that specific audience?
As this week’s lecture makes clear, understanding your audience is important for the success of an argument. For this assignment, write two substantial paragraphs addressing the following:
Paragraph 1 – What do you know about your peers?
- What are the demographics of your fellow students? What is their age, gender, educational level?
- How much are they likely to know about your topic?
- What will be their beliefs about your topic?
- If they are likely to hold contrary views or have objections, what are those likely to be?
Paragraph 2 – How do you intend to persuade them?
- What will be your ethos and how will you establish that?
- How will you use logos? What facts and reasoning will be most effective?
- Where will you use pathos? Given your topic and understanding your audience, where will your points be most effective in making your readers feel? Is the urgency of the problem that you outline noted in the introduction or in the examples you use?
- How will you deal with their potential doubts and objections, and how will you win them over?
